Garden Parasols & Bases FAQs 

Here are just a few of our more frequently asked questions:

1. How do I set up my garden parasol?

Easy-peezy. First, buy a matching base, if it doesn’t already come with your purchase. Choose a location first and then push the parasol pole into the base; then using the side screw functionality, lock the base unit onto the parasol frame. Depending on the model you’ve gone for, there’ll be a crank handle or push mechanism to extend the canopy, and a tilt button to adjust the angle.

2. Can I make my parasol installation permanent?

Although all of our parasol models arrive with free standing flexibility, you can choose to cement it in the ground, should you want permanent furnishing. If this is the case, buy a parasol with its own ‘feet’ (i.e. not a heavy base, but standing implements) like those in the Deluxe Cantilever range. Remove a flagstone from your surface, plant the frame in the vacant area, and fill it with concrete.

3. What’s the practical distinction between centre and side frames?

Our parasols either have a pole attached in the middle of the canopy, or one that annexes from the side. The latter option gives the head of the parasol room to twist, rise and dip to your exact requirements, whilst also leaving more space under it to hang over a dining arrangement for example.

4. How do I protect my garden parasol and base?

The base will look after itself, so there’s no need to worry about that. Retract the canopy to the sides of the frame, and invest in a sizeable parasol cover and drape/tie it around the pole. A couple of our premier parasols come with a cover as standard.

5. What about caring for my parasol all-year round?

Brush any leaves or dirt off the canopy, and apply a mild detergent with a cloth before hosing it with cold water. Don’t use bleach; a simple scrubbing brush and regular cleaner are all you need for riding mould and mildew. You only have to clean it once a year, before you pack it away during colder months – however, leave it dry (fully open) for at least a day before you pack it away.
