We spend a third of our lives in bed! That’s a third of our lives surrounded by pillows, blankets, duvet covers and sheets. If you don’t get the bedding right… it can be the difference between a terrible and terrific nights sleep.
Getting an early night and diving into a fresh set of sheets can be one of life’s greatest pleasures. But picking out bedding can be a complete nightmare when there are so many options in front of you. You want to be counting sheep, not thread counts! No more nodding off, scrolling for the perfect set - we’ve tried to break it down and make this selection process a breeze! Take a look at our Bedding FAQ’s and get your sleep schedule back on track.
With so many options available, bedding can feel like a bit of a minefield. The best material for one person, might be completely different for another… also tricky if you’re sharing your bed. We’ve put together a few points below of the benefits of each fabric to give you a helping hand in selecting the best fit for you!
Silk – Luxurious, lightweight, soft, naturally hypo-allergenic (great for allergy sufferers and sensitive skin), temperature regulating. Watch out though – these materials can be costly and harder to clean.
Egyptian Cotton – Luxurious, lightweight, soft, natural, great for sensitive skin – Again this material can be quite costly and harder to clean!
Cotton – Soft, natural, lightweight, breathable, great for sensitive skin, durable, easily washable. Watch out for thread counts though, the higher the thread count, often the higher the price. Also very absorbent, so if you perspire during the night, this might not be the fabric for you.
Linen – Breathable, good in warm weather, soft, durable, natural. Linen can be expensive and wrinkles easily!
Polyester – Durable, can handle regular washing and drying, wrinkle and fade resistant, easy-care, often paired with cotton for benefits of both materials. Careful though, it’s not great for people with sensitive skin and isn’t a very eco-friendly option!
Wool – Natural, good insulator and temperature regulating, soft, breathable, wicks moisture away. Not always good for allergy sufferers and can have a greater price tag!
Bamboo – Soft, lightweight, breathable, natural, antimicrobial, wicks moisture, easily washable, can be eco-friendly!
Thread count is the number of threads in one square inch of material – ranging from 200 – 1,000+ per square inch. Simply put, the higher the thread count, usually the better quality the fabric. Often though, a higher thread count can mean fibres are being closely packed together, so sheets can become stiffer and denser – think luxury hotel bed sheets! So, when choosing a thread count, it’s really down to personal preference!
The easiest answer is, not necessarily, however duvets are not as easy to wash and dry as duvet covers and sheets. And when we’re spending on average 7 hours a night sleeping under duvets, that’s a lot of hours of perspiring leading, to a whole lot of washing! Duvet covers are often machine washable, tumble drier safe and easy to swap over. And there is nothing quite like changing the sheets and snuggling under a fresh duvet cover. With lots of designs, colours and fabric options available, it’s also a great way to instantly change the style of a room and add your personal touch!
Not always! If it’s matching pillowcases you’re after, make sure you’re checking they’re coming too. Many of our amazing suppliers are based in other countries outside of the UK, so their pillowcases can be all shapes and sizes. If you’re unsure, get in touch and we’ll guide you through!
Where we’re sleeping on average 49+ hours a week, we spend a large chunk of time snuggled up under the covers. It’s totally natural to find sweat, dirt, dead skin cells and dust mites share your bed with you! Sorry if that’s the first you’ve heard of it! As and when you clean your bedding is really personal preference and dependent on care instructions, but as a guide we’d recommend the following:
Sheets – once a week
Pillowcases – one a week
Duvet covers – 2 weeks to a month
Blankets – 2 to 3 months
Pillows – 4 to 6 months
Mattress – 6 months and replace every 6-8 years!
It can, however be mindful of the care instructions supplied with your bedding! Many materials can become damaged, fade or shrink if they take a whirl in the tumble-drier. Materials like silk, Egyptian cotton and wool can be harder to keep clean and dry, and you might need to seek out a specialist cleaner. If you follow the care instructions, you can’t go wrong!
If bedding is unused and in pristine, re-sellable condition you can follow our returns process and get this back to us! Unfortunately though, if you’ve given the bedding a test-run to see if it’s right for you, we are unable to accept it back. We hope though that our FAQ guide has given you enough information to make an informed decision.
