Consoles sit somewhere between a bedside table and dining table. They’re tall, neat and portable – not too bulky, but big enough for decorations and some even come with drawers for extra storage. What’s the difference between a side table and a console table?

Several things differentiate them. One is the length: a console table is designed to be placed against a wall or the back of a sofa and provide more room to hold home accessories. Second is the height, because – unlike its smaller cousin – a console unit can be reached whether you’re standing or sitting. They are commonly used for narrow spaces like hallways, as well as living rooms and conservatories.

Do console tables feature storage options?

Yes, they do. Console tables are designed to display your home accessories, or anything that doesn’t suit a coffee table or filing cabinet. As well as our sleek, two or three-drawer console tables, there’s a range of shelf-style units to take in. The Dutchbone Consuela item, for instance, has a trio of shelves and a wheeled base, so you can move it easily to where it’ll be most practical in the living room. Elsewhere, the Willis & Gambier model has both drawers and a shelf underneath for boots, slippers or trainers.

Do console tables come fully assembled?

It depends on the size, weight and material. Our larger metal and wood tables may require two-person self-assembly and come with straightforward instructions to do so. On the other hand, many of our console tables arrive just as they appear on their product page. Simply check the product description before placing your order or give our super friendly customer service team a call.

Will heavy items placed on top of the console damage the wood?

The console tables in our range all have maximum load weights listed on our website. Limits generally vary between 60kg and 80kg; some can take slightly more pressure. If you exceed this, then damage to the wood is likely to occur.
