What is a kids’ day bed?

A kids' day bed is a bed and a sofa rolled into one! By day, it’s the perfect spot to lounge, read, or play games, and by night it transforms into a cosy bed. Kids just love to lounge, so it’s understandable that kids’ day beds have become a popular choice for any self-respecting king or queen of the recline.

With their multifunctionality as a sleeping or lounging space, along with extra storage, a day bed can economise the adolescent environment. Whether you’re on the lookout for a unique bedroom addition, sleepover solution, or just a place for the kids to lounge without taking over the living room, you’re sure to find it with one of our incredible range of kids’ day beds.

Types of kids’ day beds:

  • Single day beds: A single day bed has a three-sided frame that wraps around the bed base – great for keeping beds neat and tidy.
  • Trundle day beds: Day beds can come with a pull-out trundle bed located in the bottom base – a fabulous space-saving solution when an extra bed is needed for a sleepover. The trundle bed can be pulled out or tucked away in seconds.
  • Day beds with storage: Many day beds now incorporate space-saving solutions such as under-bed drawers or clever shelving to maximise space in kids’ bedrooms.

Our day bed guide has plenty of ideas for integrating this unique furniture piece into kids’ bedrooms.

What sizes do kids’ day beds come in?

Our kids’ day beds are available in single bed sizes. Each product specification includes the exact dimensions for every bed to help you plan your space. Need a new mattress too? We offer many kids' mattresses to complement your bed choice and help your little one get a great night’s sleep.

How high are kids’ day beds?

Kids’ day beds are usually designed to sit close to the floor, making them easy and safe for little ones to climb into. Most are 18-25 inches high, although toddler-friendly versions can sit even lower. Styles with storage drawers or a trundle bed underneath will likely stand taller. Always check the product specifications for specific measurements.

Kids’ day bed materials

Our kids’ day beds are made from robust, solid wood, sturdy metal or high-quality wood composites with wooden slatted bases to provide excellent mattress support. All the materials used in our bed frames are durable, easy to clean and safe for children. Please refer to each product description for specific details.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) logo indicates that the trundle bed is made with wood from FSC-certified forests or post-consumer waste. This certification ensures responsible sourcing, and we're proud to offer kids’ beds that meet these environmental standards.

What age are kids’ day beds suitable for?

Our kids' day beds are designed for children aged three and up, once they have transitioned from a cot to a regular bed. Children should be able to safely get in and out of the bed on their own – always check the product specification for bed height. Day beds are a great choice for tweens and teens who need space to relax in their bedrooms.

When should you switch toddlers to a day bed?

Most toddlers are ready to move from a cot to a day bed between 18 months and 3 years old. A promising sign they’re ready is if they’re trying to climb out of the cot or if they’ve outgrown it. A day bed can feel more ‘grown-up’ but still safe and cosy, especially since many are low to the ground.

Will a day bed get in the way?

The whole point of day beds is to provide maximum adaptability in the minimum amount of space, which is why many of our favourite designs incorporate storage units inside or below them, actively helping you declutter your room. A good day bed helps you save as much space as possible. Explore our top seven day beds for maximising space.

Do day beds make comfy sofas?

Rest assured – manufacturers know they must deliver on the promise of an item with double or triple functions. Although they’ll look and feel great with associated blankets and pillows on top of them, many designs feature armrests, railings, frames with appropriate back support and height dimensions to allow anyone to properly relax outside of bedtime.

Are kids’ day beds easy to assemble?

All our day beds come with easy-to-follow instructions and everything you need to assemble them. Depending on the size, you might want a helping hand, but most beds can be built in just a few hours and will be ready for lounging in no time!

Flair Zoom Small Single Bunk Bed
Well impressed with these bunk beds. Did a lot of research before selecting the Flair Zoom mostly due to size restriction and reviews on quality. This is very sturdy indeed. Quality of frame is excellent and it sits very solidly on the floor. Extremely heavy which makes it virtually immovable. Exactly whats needed with a 7 year old and nearly 4 year old grandchild. A great buy!
