Rug size guide
A rug that's too small makes a room feel disjointed. These placement tips help you choose a size that pulls the space together.
Living room
- All legs on: a large rug holds the whole seating group.
- Front legs on: the front legs of the sofa and chairs rest on the rug, linking the furniture together.
- Leave a border of floor visible around the rug's edges.
Bedroom
- A large rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed, extending beyond the sides.
- Or two smaller rugs or runners either side of the bed.
Dining room
Choose a rug big enough for chairs to stay on it when pulled out from the table.
Hallways
Runners suit hallways and landings; leave some floor visible at each end.
