It won’t be long now before your beautiful bundle arrives! But where to start when it comes to choosing their first bed? If you’ve been considering co-sleeper and bedside cribs, we have an amazing selection for you to choose from, each with different features for you and your baby! Helping both of you get the best nights sleep possible, a co-sleeper crib has lots of benefits.
Co-sleeper and bedside cribs encourage bonding with your baby! Having your baby close by, you have the ability to soothe, feed and check on your baby with as little disturbance as possible. This means both yours and your babies sleep should benefit! Bedside cribs offer a safe and separate space for your baby to sleep while offering the same benefits as co-sleeping. And having them so close and being able to watch them while you rest and relax, helps alleviate those anxious feelings we all feel when getting to grips with parenthood! Plus most co-sleeper designs are a more compact size, so in those earlier months, if you’re short on space, a co-sleeper crib is an excellent choice!
Parents often worry co-sleeping can lead to babies developing separation anxiety and never developing the ability to sleep alone, however with bedside cribs and co-sleeper cots creates a separate space for your baby while still offering the same benefits of co-sleeping. Sleeping in the same room as your baby has been known to reduce the risk of SIDS by as much as 50%. Where most designs can also be used separately from your bed and mirror the feeling of a cot or cot bed, this helps later down the line when your tot moves to their own room.
Yes, they can be used from birth, but it’s also personal preference. Some parents prefer to start off with a Moses basket or go straight to a cot or cot bed, however, if you’d prefer to keep your baby close and tend to them with little disturbance, then we would recommend a co-sleeper crib!
Generally, we recommend up to the age of 6 months, however, it is also dependent on your babies’ development. If your baby is becoming more active, they’re starting to move around more, and they’ve outgrown the crib we would recommend moving them to their next bed. We have lots of options for you to choose from once they’ve reached this step and plenty of expert advice and assistance if you’re still head-scratching!
Most co-sleeper cribs can be adjusted to varying heights to suit your existing bed and furniture. You’ll need to ensure the co-sleeper you opt for matches the specifications you’re working to, but the designs we offer can be adapted to suit your needs.
Pillows, bedding and duvets aren’t recommended for babies under 12 months of age. The crib should remain as uncluttered as possible for their safety. A growbag or sleeping bag would be perfect for your newborn, just note the varying styles and tog for the season to ensure your baby sleeps at the correct temperature. Fitted crib sheets are also a must and mattress protectors are always a handy addition too!
Most of the designs here at Cuckooland can be used as standalone cribs too! If you’ve decided to choose a co-sleeper crib, but then change your mind, you’re still able to use the crib on its own. For safety reasons we urge you to choose a spot in the room away from radiators, windows or items your baby may be able to grab hold of, but otherwise, the co-sleeper crib can be detached from your bed!
