Choosing Sleeping Products for your Baby

It can be confusing business when you’re shopping for baby sleeping products as there is such a huge selection of items available… one thing is for sure, baby blankets have been around for generations (your granny would have knitted a few to be sure!) and even though they may be seen as a more traditional option, they are a safe and simple option for nursery bedding. The most important thing to check is that the baby bedding complies with British Standards, this information will be on the product itself, the packaging and on the product detail page.

1. Are Baby Blankets better than using a duvet?

Duvets, quilts and pillows are not recommended to use as cot bedding until your baby is a least 12 months old, this is because they can make your baby too hot and can increase the risk of suffocation. Blankets are recommended because they can be layered with sheets to offer more control over your baby’s sleeping temperature. Many are made from breathable fabrics such as cotton, making them lightweight and machine washable.

2. What size are Baby Blankets?

Our collection of baby blankets vary in size, our product detail page will give the specific size of the blanket you are looking to purchase. It’s best to consider where you’ll be using the blanket, for example, if it's going to be used in a Moses basket it may be better to opt for a smaller size than say, if it's going to be used in a cot. As a bonus, some baby blanket designs are padded and can therefore double up as a playmat! Good to know, right? Once your little one has outgrown their cot we also have a super cute range of kids bedding that will make the transition to a “big” kids bed even more exciting!

3. How should I wash my Baby’s Blanket?

Some new parents like to wash everything before their baby arrives… this is totally up to you! You may like to prepare for your new arrival in this way, we all know how comforting the smell of freshly laundered bedding is! The first thing to check would be the manufacturer’s washing guidelines, which should be included on the product itself and / or the packaging. Most baby blankets are machine washable at around 40°C, we would also recommend that you use a mild detergent that is suitable for sensitive skin.
