Lounging around the home is a pleasure we never tire of. We suspect you don’t either, which is why we’ve hunted high and low (especially high!) for the best hanging chairs on the market. Beanbags are brill, sofas are something to savour, but a suspended chair is in its own class for chilled leisure time! They’re a fab thing to add to a conservatory, living room or quirky bed chamber. With a slight rocking motion, they’ll take you to bliss before you know it, maybe with a favourite book propped on your knees. Cuckooland has sourced a team of brilliant innovative designers and manufacturers, responsible for some of the best hanging chairs in Europe, so you can look forward to a handpicked collection of original designs of the highest quality.
Hanging Chair FAQs
Swaying towards a ‘yes’ yet? Glance at some common questions around these items first, just for a little peace of mind:
How high should my hanging chairs be?
It’s up to you, really, and largely rests on how tall you are. As a rule, though, we’d say that the chair should rest at hip-height: remember, it’ll dip when you sit on it. This requires a suitable location for the ceiling or wall fixture, measured in advance for its relation to your body. Larger models, such as the Bonsai Cocoon chairs, have height specs as part of the installation instructions.
Do chains and hooks come with a hanging chair order?
Yes. Egg chairs, outdoor seating and tent-style units do arrive with all the necessary hanging equipment i.e. chains/ropes and a hook. For hammocks though you’ll have to buy other fixtures separately to secure it onto the wall.
Can several people sit on your hanging chairs at once?
Yes, with some exceptions. Globo chairs and kids’ cocoons can take multiple people, with a weight capacity in excess of 100kg. Other items, such as those from HK Living, are meant for a single occupant. As such, you won’t be able to hold much more than 90kg inside these smaller designs.
How do I attach the hanging chair to the ceiling?
First, find a beam, (or tree if outdoors) or special mounting bracket above where you want to sit. This is called an ‘anchor point’, on which you can use a stud finder to locate the middle (strongest) section. Bore a hole no deeper than half an inch. Then screw the hook into place, clipping it to the body of the chair.
What are the best hanging techniques for a hammock?
You can cut the length of the hammock down by tying knots at each end, or elevating the wall fixtures so the curve is more pronounced. From our research, a 30-degree angle seems to be favoured by many users. When you lie in the hammock, it’s worth adopting a sideways stance – straightening yourself will make the hammock contract on either side, locking you in place.
