Long gone are the days when an armchair was merely an afterthought to a living space, a lowly limpet to a sofa suite set; recent trends have seen an explosion of seating options when you’re looking for the now “must have” statement armchair. Armchairs vs Accent Chairs… what’s the difference?

While both serve as versatile pieces of furniture that are ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and entrance hallways, there is a distinguishing difference between an armchair and an accent chair – an armchair always has arms; an accent chair may or may not – simples!

Armchairs can be bought as a standalone piece, or as part of a coordinating sofa set, they can perfectly compliment and connect your interior colour or fabric theme or be completely mismatched for a more contrasting, striking look. That’s the beauty of an armchair – you can let your creative side run wild!

1. Do any of your armchairs have matching foot stools?

Several of our armchairs do have matching footstools and ottomans that can be ordered in the same fabric as your new chair, on each of the product detail pages there will be a tab that you can select called “Shop the Collection”, here you will find all coordinating items that are part of the same range / collection. Alternatively you can shop our Pouffes and Beanbags category where you will find our entire collection of foot stools.

2. Can I use an armchair as a nursing chair?

This is an entirely personal decision, many of our armchairs would offer up the comfort and back support that a new mum may be looking for in a nursing chair, however you may wish to take a look at our nursing chairs category, as these chairs have been designed specifically for nursing. Rocking chairs also offer up a good option, nothing quite beats the comfort of gently rocking, in fact just thinking about it is making us a little droopy eyed!

3. How do I clean my armchair?

No matter how prudent you are trying to keep your new fabric or leather armchair in pristine condition, we all know that accidents can happen! Whether it’s sticky fingers from your little darling, a slip of your red wine hand… but it’s ok, if you tackle the stain as quickly as possible, it’ll be like it never happened! Blot away a wet stain with a clean cloth to remove as much of the spill as possible, follow by dabbing the stain with a mixture of water and mild detergent (mix 1 part water to ¼ part detergent), avoid scrubbing the stain as this may remove some of the colour from the fabric. Allow to dry completely. There are many products on the market that can be used to clean upholstery, we advise to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
