Our 10 Favourite Kids Double Beds (and why)

As parents, you’ll certainly appreciate that your ‘babies’ are growing up – the little height markers on the door frame, the swapping of kids’ clothes with a friend, shoes that only fit for a few months, language that you thought you’d never hear…are all obvious signs. Sigh, doesn’t the time fly?

Once, they were happy being ‘snug as a bug’ in their junior or single sized beds – but now they’re older and looking for more room to stretch out and be comfortable. Anticipating this need for extra comfort, we’ve scoured the globe for kids’ small double beds for your younger family members. Including top bed designers such as Vox, Woood and Lifetime, you can be sure they’ll achieve superior comfort in a bigger bed that also looks ‘fab’.

The only problem will be getting our little smelly dormice out of their new bed!

Here’s a short list of our ten favourite Kids Double Beds and why:

1. Choose a Timeless Bed Frame

New York Small Double Kids Bed in White

The New York small double bed will make a perfect addition to a kid’s room with a little extra space. Or, maybe you’ve moved home or acquired more space in your little one’s bedroom through an extension.

Whatever the reason, your child will appreciate having more room to turn over at night. Plus, this cool looking frame is timeless enough to withstand changing decor trends.

Available in several colours – your son or daughter can help design their new bedroom – which colour will they choose?

2. Try Industrial Chic

Black Metal Small Double Four Poster Bed by Woood

Whilst a kid’s small double bed is smaller than a standard double – we love the use of height here which emphasises this stylish design. Made from black powder-coated steel – for a durable and high-end finish – Woood has reimagined how a four-poster bed can look.

Ideal against a whole host of wall colours and bedroom themes – including the safari, space and sporty ‘looks’ – we see this bed lasting them into their teen years and beyond.

Don’t forget your accessories either – our popular cotton ball LED string lights are available in many different colourways for that final ‘pizazz’.

3. Opt for ‘Oodles’ of Storage Space

Vox 4 You Bed with Raised Mattress Mechanism in White

Modular storage has experienced a surge in popularity in recent times – and with good reason.

Being raised off the floor – this small European double bed by Vox has a generous amount of storage to house your kiddy’s nick-nacks, books and homework along with the side compartments. We also sell the oak finish storage box inlays pictured here (sold separately).

But wait, there’s even more good news – having the ability to raise the mattress (not included) and access an incredible amount of storage space, makes even more use of their existing space.

4. ‘Go North’

Vox Nature Bed with Solid Headboard

Whether you’re in Southampton, Sittingbourne or Sheffield – you can acquire some Scandi style with this linear design.

The ‘Small Double’ option is perfect for kids with a little extra floor space – and it features an array of different features that’ll appeal to you and your child. The slatted headboard is angled for comfort when they’re sitting up in bed. You’ll love the two height levels for the mattress as well as its solid oak legs and edges.

5. Everything’s ‘Beachy’ with Lifetime

Lifetime Kids Beach House Double Bed

The ‘Small Double’ version of this bed is playful and sure to fire kids’ imaginations given the seaside styling and cut-out roof windows.

Handcrafted in Denmark using traditional 100% sustainable Scandinavian Pine – you know they’ll feel right at home in this whimsical (made-to-order) bed. Talking of comfort – Lifetime has used non-toxic paints and a luxury slatted base to go the extra mile.

6. Add More Sleeping Space

Vox Concept Small Double Bed in White

Does your ‘mini me’ wish they had a tad more sleeping space? This modern small double bed can fit a variety of different room sizes.

In terms of design, we love the crisp white shade – which contrasts with the oak wooden legs. Plus, it’ll accommodate different thicknesses of mattress as the slats can be lowered or lifted slightly.

Double up on comfort with the grey hanging headboard (sold separately) – so they don’t strain their necks whilst playing on their games tablet.

7. Be Spoilt for (Colour) Choice

Mathy by Bols Madaket Small Double Bed

Perfect for spacious kids or teenager’s rooms – this small double bed by Mathy by Bols will have you spoilt for choice with an incredible 26 shades to choose from. From ‘Thunderstorm Grey’ to ‘Ochre’ and ‘Summer Pink’ – this bed offers the widest number of options for matching your children’s bed to their existing room scheme. Ticking ‘design boxes’ is not enough for this Belgian design house – known as a ‘Creative Factory’.

The Madaket Small Double Bed is sturdy due to the solid pine sides and MDF material – but don’t worry if it gets scuffed thanks to the coordinating colour stick that comes included.

8. Double-up with ‘Comfy’ Accessories

Oliver Furniture Wood Small Double Lounger Bed

Multifunctional beds are a practical choice – yet, this design is anything but bland.

A stylish lounger bed made from solid FSC Birch and Oak, it’s the perfect twenty-first-century update on a daybed – doubling up as a regular bed at night. Whether you choose it in the ‘White’ or ‘White & Oak’ option, we know your ‘little man’ or ‘miss’ will find their eco-friendly bamboo duvet and pillow (sold separately) comfortable.

We’d highly recommend buying the custom mattress (not included) given this bed’s unique shape.

9. More Space for Sleepovers

Oeuf River Small Double Bed in White & Birch

This contemporary small double bed by Oeuf has a clever added extra – it features a small shelf at the footboard, ideal for storing books so they’re close by for bedtimes.

Not only will your little ’un have more space to settle – but there’s the option to add a trundle to be used as a storage drawer or store a spare mattress for sleepovers.

Scatter some soft cushions and throws and ‘hey presto’, you’ve created a super comfortable sleeping zone.

10. Create a ‘Den’ within Your Home

Lifetime Adventure Hangout Small Double Bunk Bed

Offering two beds in one, this bunk bed is a ‘double decker’ hangout space for your little ones and their friends to relax in comfort.

The lower small double bed (120 x 200 cm) offers room for them to roll over – whilst its safety rail sides prevent accidents.

They’ll be queuing up to climb the four-step external ladder to their den above – complete with a single bed (90 x 200 cm). Adding the internal ladder (sold separately) will mean even more fun for your ‘little monkeys’.

A Small Double Bed is the Perfect Addition to Your Kid’s Bedroom, with these Designs Offering More Sleeping Space, Comfort and Unique Features.

Just because they’re little doesn’t mean they wouldn’t like a ‘big bed’. A small double is the ideal solution and rather ‘comfy’ too. Learn more about these beautiful kid’s beds by calling +44 (0) 1305 231231, or send us an email. We’ll be happy to advise you.
