How to Create a Fun and Educational Playroom

If you have the space for a playroom, they’re a huge bonus for kids and parents! An underused room quickly becomes the most popular place to play with just a few changes.

Creating a separate space for play, crafting, reading and relaxing, helps children understand their bedrooms are for rest, benefitting their bedtime routine. Kids’ bedrooms will be free from toys and trip hazards (we’re looking at you Lego). Siblings and school friends can play together in one space, encouraging social learning. But the biggest selling point for parents – tidying up is made simpler! Instead of having to organise multiple rooms, you can close the doors to the playroom and worry about it another day… What a relief!

These are just a few of the advantages of creating an exciting escape for your little ones! If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve listed the things you might want to include in the playroom, so your kiddies get the most out of their new activity centre and get more from your unused space!

Lifetime Storage Cabinet Play Table and Benches

No playroom is complete without a corner for crafting! It’s a spot for kids to get stuck in, express themselves and stretch their creative muscles!

Fill the Lifetime Storage Cabinet with paints, crayons, scissors, glue and glitter and see what your aspiring artist comes up with. Expect to have lots of new masterpieces adorned to the fridge.

Cleverly designed to save on floor space, the tabletop and benches slide in and out when they’re needed – creating either a compact storage cabinet or play table and benches. And when they’re older it’s a great place for ticking off homework!

2. Montessori Toy Storage

The Montessori principle, simply put, is the clever use of furniture, toys and design to create a fun and educational environment that promotes independence and self-directed play in children. By creating stimulating surroundings for children, they’ll unknowingly be learning and absorbing all the information around them.

Furniture like the Vox Tuli Bookcase & Toy Storage does just this! Designed at the perfect height for little ones, with open compartments – children can access toys and books independently and later tidy them away when they’re ready. Use the included labels to aid smaller children and give them a little helping hand should they need it.

Available in pastel green or white; fill the sections with their favourite blocks, stuffies, board books and car collection to encourage independent play!

3. A Bookcase For Their Favourites

A different Montessori design for all of their favourite reads – the Bloomingville Bookcase with Animal Drawers is sure to spark your little one’s imagination!

Designed with 12 open shelves – from Beatrix Potter’s Tales to The Very Hungry Caterpillar, once they’ve finished flicking through the pages and absorbing the words and illustrations, they can return to the bookcase to pick out another… and another… and another!

Including bear, bunny and panda storage boxes – these critter cubes will guard their most prized possessions. Keeping toys contained, with storage designed to suit little ones; hopefully you won’t have to help out with the tidying as much!

4. Somewhere to Sit

Now that you’ve found a bookcase, they’ll need a quiet spot to sit, read and relax with their favourite stories…

The Extreme Lounging Mini B Teddy Indoor Bean Bags are so cosy, that you’ll want the adult version! Available in a choice of 4 muted colours; with soft textured fabric and polybeads that gently mould to the body, it feels like you’re receiving a big bear hug while you sit!

Arrange a selection of cuddly bean bags in the playroom for your kiddies to snuggle up and enjoy some quiet time. It’s the ultimate kid’s accessory. Featuring teddy ear ‘handles’, along with a durable rubber handle and a lightweight design, they can easily move around and get themselves comfortable.

If the playroom is on the smaller side of things, but you’d still like to add in a play table and chairs, choose a stackable design!

Saving on floor space when stored, the Vox Tuli Kids Stackable Stools and Desks create a neat tower that doubles up as a bookcase. Organise books and belongings in the shelved compartments and when they’re up for some crafting bring these colourful tables and chairs out into the room for a day of play!

The sweet pastel colours are interchangeable, allowing you to create a set that both boys and girls will adore.

The circus-style tent with star print comes in lilac or rust with a matching play tunnel available. Add in a selection of cosy blankets, cushions and soft toys and it’s the perfect place to read, watch movies or even take a nap! And when they’re done for the day, roll down the door to keep toys stored away inside. It can even be used outside in the summer months!

Including an abacus, letter blocks, stacking numbers and puzzles – made from wood and finished in rainbow colours; kiddies won’t be able to resist having a go for themselves. Develop dexterity, colour recognition, spelling, numeracy, communication skills and more.

And when they’re not playing, each of these beautiful toys becomes a decorative addition in the playroom, ready for another day of home-schooling!
