Viva Magenta! Bring Pantone’s Colour of the Year into the Kid’s Bedroom
Drum roll, please! Pantone has announced their Colour of the Year 2023, and the winner is… Viva Magenta! A vibrant shade of pink-red that is ‘powerful and empowering’, ‘pure joy’ and encourages ‘experimentation and self-expression’.
Sounds perfect for a kid’s room, right? We thought so too. So, to celebrate this electrifying shade coming out on top, we’ve put together some ideas on how you can incorporate pink and red shades into your child’s bedroom, to add joy to their space.
Without further ado, here are our top Viva Magenta kid’s room picks. Let’s flamin-go!
1. Blush Backgrounds
Not quite ready for bright magenta walls? Completely understandable! One of the more subtle ways to add pink to your child’s bedroom is with a pastel or plaster pink colour.
These shades work especially well with white furniture for a pretty Scandi look. Our Alfie Modular Mid Sleeper has a blackboard side which further adds to the modern, monochrome aesthetic. The bed can be arranged as a mid-sleeper with storage or a separate single bed and bookcase.
Another kid’s bed that boasts plenty of storage is the Fraser Bookcase Bed, thanks to the included trundle drawer and shelves in the headboard. Accessorise with a pastel pink blanket or bedding to complete the fairy-tale look.
2. Hot Pink High Sleepers
Perhaps you’re keen to incorporate some brighter pink colours, but not across the whole room?
Consider a high sleeper bed with a touch of vivid pink, such as the Estella High Sleeper with Desk and Corner Sofa Bed. The desk under this high sleeper bed is perfect for homework or gaming, whilst the vibrant chair bed will easily accommodate their friends on sleepover nights.
Pink and grey is a great colour combination, but if you fancy a change from grey, you might prefer pink and white. In this case, have a look at the Thuka HIT 7 High Sleeper Bed. This bed is almost identical to the Estella, but features a Scandi-style whitewashed finish that really makes the pink pop!
3. Rose & Red Beds
Another way to bring pink or red into your kid’s bedroom is with the bed itself.
For siblings or sleepovers, the Trasman Barca Bunk Bed in Pink is a great choice. This bed features pink doors on some of the many storage compartments, which include a built-in wardrobe, drawers and shelving – plenty of space for all their bits and bobs!
If you just need a single bed, our New York Metal Kids Beds are available in a range of fun colours, including this bright red shade. The bold colour would be perfect for football or fire station-themed bedrooms!
4. Bright Lights
Lighting and bedroom accessories are a great way to introduce new colours into a kid’s room, without committing to a complete makeover.
To incorporate a few shades of pink and purple into your little one’s room, check out our Cotton Ball LED String Lights. Available in various colour combinations, these stunning lights will brighten up their room in more ways than one.
String them around their headboard, over a desk or inside a den space, for an Instagram-worthy touch that will look de-light-ful even in daylight!
5. Strawberry Seating
After a long day of school, kids probably just want somewhere to put their feet up, watch TV or play games.
The Mighty B Indoor Bean Bag in Red by Extreme Lounging is the relaxation partner they’ve been looking for. As well as this bright red colour, these super-squishy chairs are available in 7 other vibrant shades, including fuchsia pink. Pair this with the red to create a truly vivid ‘Viva Magenta’ look!
This size is ideal for tweens and teens, but if your little ones are smaller, try the Mini Bean Bag size for a perfect fit. Your only difficulty will be getting them out of it!
6. Salmon Storage
The more colourful and exciting their storage, the more likely they are to pick up their toys at the end of the day… right?!
Ok, that might be wishful thinking, but there’s still no reason you can’t choose aesthetically-pleasing storage furniture that fits with your décor theme. In this case, we have several options in various shades of pink that would support the Viva Magenta look.
The Vox Concept Chest of Drawers comes in a pale pink and grey finish (very Millennial!) which puts a contemporary twist on a Scandi-style classic. Meanwhile, the Kiddy Wooden Toy Box in Old Pink gives your child an open space into which to pack the day’s toys, ready to do it all again tomorrow.
7. Berry Bedding
Finally, we always recommend bedding as one of the easiest ways to update a child’s bedroom – and change it when they inevitably get bored!
The SNURK Cherries Bedding Set features a bright cherry pattern on a white background. As with all of SNURK’s photographic print bedding, it’s made from 100% cotton, machine washable and tumble-dryer safe, to keep adults happy, as well as kids.
Accessorise with clashing pink and green for a brave and bold look. The typical design ‘rules’ are much more relaxed when it comes to kids’ rooms – after all, kids just want to have fun!
