Bar stool height guide
The right bar stool height depends on the height of the surface you'll sit at.
Match the stool to the surface
- Measure from the floor to the underside of the worktop or bar top.
- As a rule of thumb, leave roughly 25 to 30cm between the seat and the underside of the top for comfortable leg room.
- Kitchen counters are usually lower than dedicated bars, so they need lower ("counter height") stools.
Spacing
- Allow space between stools so people aren't knocking elbows; swivel stools need a little more.
- Footrests make taller stools more comfortable.
Shop bar stools and bar tables, and always check the seat height on each product page.
