When Playcentre meets Kids Bedroom Decor

I must confess, children’s indoor soft play centres were not my favourite place to hang out when my kids were young. A few hours squished into a hot and humid holding pen for parents while the kids ran wild, screaming in a pitch detected by a pod of dolphins frolicking off the coast of Cornwall, wasn’t my first choice in how best to spend my precious Saturday afternoons! I hold my head in shame and admit that I was one of those parents who did a ‘drop and run’ at my child’s best mate’s birthday bash, with my identity shrouded in the dust my quickly accelerating back tyres were hastily producing (please don’t judge me!). Hey, at least I planned my handbrake turn over grass so my kids could enjoy a nice soft landing.

However, I am a huge fan of recreating these colourful adventure playgrounds in a kid’s bedroom – designing a fun place for the kids to play whilst you can calmly potter about the house or even join in the fun, seems far more appealing! And you’re not subjected to the smell of sweaty feet fused with fizzy orange fart – well, hopefully not! Shower, delouse, sleep, repeat. Ok I’ll stop now.

Over the years, children’s bedrooms have evolved from being merely a room to sleep in, to being multi functional spaces of work, rest, and play. Here at Cuckooland we’ve discovered the most amazing kid’s beds that offer up the excitement of a soft play area but from the comfort of their own bedroom.

Bring the Play Home to your Kid’s Bedroom

Fun is at the heart of a play centre, along with bold and bright colours and of course the obligatory slide! They offer a safe environment for children to jump, run, explore, and do what children do best – play!

So, how do you recreate this child friendly play park in your kid’s bedroom? Here are a few ideas to consider;

  1. Choose a Kids Bed with Slide

A kids bed with slide is the perfect bed for a play themed bedroom, in fact I’d go so far as saying they’re essential! A play centre is not complete without a slide!

The age of your child may influence the style of bed that is most suitable. Lower profile beds such as the Maxxi Cabin Bed with Slide, designed with a small ladder for climbing into bed and a slide for exit, would be more suitable for young children. Whereas the higher frame of the Adventure Treehouse Bunk Bed would suit an older child.

Beds with slides are a super fusion of play and sleep, all rolled up into one! You can even create an extra under bed play den with the addition of a play tent, as seen here with the Pino Kids Mid Sleeper with Slide & Curtain. With bold and bright designs available to match the soft play theme.

If you’ve got double trouble (siblings sharing a bedroom) or need a spare bed for when their friends sleepover, let’s face it, you’ll have trouble keeping them away from this uber fun bedroom, then you could consider a bunk bed with slide. Mathy By Bols have created one of the most impressive beds with slides I have ever seen! I’d even queue up to have a go down this slide!

  1. Incorporate Easy Access Storage

Help your kids to keep a tidy room (play zone) by incorporating easy to reach storage. Look out for open toy storage, such as the Kiddy Wooden Toy Box, that would make tidying up effortless and leave the floor clear and safe for them to cavort about.

  1. Create a Chill Out Zone

After hours of energetic play, your kids might appreciate a quiet spot to take a moment and re-charge their batteries.

Create a chill zone with bean bags, floor cushions or play mats, where they can wind down and relax.

The bright and bold colours of Extreme Lounging Mini Bean Bag are ideal, available in 8 colours, they a perfectly sized for little bottoms!

  1. Time to Refresh

Running, jumping and sliding is thirsty-work! Recreate the play centre cafe in your child’s bedroom with a kids play kitchen! They’ll love whipping up a smoothie or cooking up some tasty waffles for their hungry chums.

Create a Colourful Kids Bedroom

Primary colours are popular in kids play centres, you feel like you’ve stepped into a bag of skittles! Blazing yellows, intense reds and bold blues fill the room – but can these daring colours work in a kid’s bedroom?

Decorating with bright colours is actually easier than you think, however if you’re a little colour shy, then adding a few bold kids bedroom accessories may be a good start. Look for colourful toys, I’m a particular fan of the gorgeous wooden toys from Le Toy Van, that will brighten up your munchkin’s bedroom.

Introduce colour with coordinating bedroom furniture, as seen here with Vox Concept, that will add a splash of colour without being too over powering.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous you could reach for the paint brush and decorate their walls in the brightest tones. Whilst bedrooms can take bright shades, you may want to stick to the cooler tones of blue or calming yellow, as red hues are known to be more of a stimulating colour.

Pick out woodwork in eye-popping primary colours if you don’t dare to cover the walls!

How to Assemble a Slide Bed

Whilst play centres may have an entire team on hand to build and assemble all the new play equipment – you may just have yourself and your trusty screwdriver!

If you’re happy to tackle assembling a bed with slide, then you’ll be pleased to hear that all our beds come with full assembly instructions. You’ll need a helping hand as assembling a bed is usually a 2 person job.

For those of you who shy away from assembling furniture look out for our selection of slide beds that come with an option for installation. This service offers full assembly and removal of all rubbish, leaving you free to sit back and relax!
