Use light and airy tones

For a true summer feel, it’s good to aim for a bright and airy look. With fresh white and pale hues, your room will instantly look light and fresh – perfect for summer.

Whether it’s those lighter evenings or early morning sunshine, it’s hard to resist throwing the windows open to let all the light in. Darker colours can trap light and feel stuffy during hot summer days, whereas light colours can really maximize any natural light.

Take inspiration from a day at the beach

Nothing says ‘summertime’ like a fun day at the beach. From colourful beach houses to pedalos and donkey rides, we all have fond memories of those summer days at the seaside.

So when it comes to creating a summer-inspired bedroom, take some inspiration from those laidback days at the beach. Whitewashed furniture and stripped-back wood are great for capturing a general beach feel, while beach-themed accessories can introduce that sense of seaside fun.

With the beach house bookcase (below), your little one can keep their bits and bobs nice and tidy. And with fun accessories like the lovely Bojangles ride-on toy, you won’t need to head to the shores to enjoy a donkey ride…

Try some blue sky thinking

While it might not always be the case in the UK, blue skies are what summer is all about. Try adding some sky blue accessories to brighten up the bedroom, and bam – instant summery vibes!

So while it might look grey outside, bring a sense of summer indoors with a couple of bright blue pops of colour. It’s a great way to introduce a bold colour into the room if you’re working with a pale colour scheme.

The aqua blue quilted bean bag chair (below) is summer in a nutshell. Because not only does it feel like you’re resting on a big puffy cloud, but your little one can also laze away without a care in the world. This Extreme Lounging bean bag is showerproof – so can be enjoyed outside in the summer, but makes the perfect bedroom addition in the colder months.

Go for a nautical theme

A nautical theme involves anything related to ships or the seaside. Whether it’s seashells, anchor accessories, or sticks of rock, reach for those nautical staples and you’ll feel summery in an instant.

As sailors famously dress in blue and white stripes, there’s no better colour scheme for a nautical-theme bedroom. Pair blue and white together, and add natural ship-like accessories made from wicker, rope, or wood.

Make a splash with watery accessories

According to scientific studies, we naturally feel more positive around blue spaces like lakes and pools. And when we’re splashing in the pool on holiday or paddling in the sea on a hot day, it’s no wonder we feel happy…

So why not celebrate those watery spaces in your little one’s room? While paddling is best on a summer’s day, your child can enjoy the positivity from these watery vibes in their room.

The bedding experts at Snurk create wonderfully imaginative bedding, helping kids imagine a world of their own. Whether they’re splashing around with their mermaid friends or sleeping with the sharks, your little one will dive headfirst into wonderful dreams.

Add ice cream treats that are too good to eat

What’s more summery than a nice cold ice cream to cool you down? And while they’re the perfect treat on a hot day, they’re also a treat to look at.

With fun and bright colours and shapes, ice-cream shaped accessories are perfect for kids. And as they’re so refreshing on those scorching hot days, they effortlessly remind you of summer in any bedroom.

Add a touch of tropical print

Floral or leafy prints effortlessly add a summery touch to any room. As we often spend lots of time in our gardens throughout summer, it’s a reminder of those bright floral scenes – minus the hayfever!

With this stunning palm leaf bedding set (below), it’s easy to imagine hacking through a leafy jungle or tropical island. As palm or monstera print reminds us of those warmer climates and tropical weather, it’s the perfect summer accessory. So, even if those far flung holidays are off the cards this summer, we can always play pretend…

And why not bring the outdoors in and dot a few plants or cacti around the room, too?

Surfs up with campervan accessories

Campervans are the ideal vessel for a fun summer getaway. But that’s not so easy when your kids don’t have a license! Instead, kids can pretend to head to the beach and ride the waves with campervan-style beds and accessories.

The Campervan Bunk Bed by Julian Bowen (below) is perfect for siblings who share a room, or enjoy lots of sleepovers. With a fun surfboard attached, your little ones can hop in and practice their surf skills before bed. And with safe railings around the bed, you can be sure they won’t fall overboard.

Laze away in a hammock

Hammocks aren’t just for lazy beach days or remote islands. Your little one can put their feet up and swing away in their very own bedroom.

With the hammock bed and stand by TiiPii (below), your kids can enjoy a nap while they softly swing back and forth. This hammock is ideal for both indoors and outdoors. So when the sun’s out, it’s the perfect way to unwind on a hot summer’s day. Made with weather-resistant material and complete with a mosquito net, kids can swing back and forth into the evening – even if it starts to drizzle.

But even when the rain pours, you can securely attach this hammock to your child’s bedroom ceiling. Because who says the fun has to stop when summer ends?
