Introducing Swyft Sofas - The Sofa in a Box

Yes you read that correctly, ‘a sofa in a box’! For those of you who aren’t familiar with this reasonably new concept, let me introduce you to the latest buzz in the world of sofas – the Swyft Sofa in a Box. Although flat pack furniture is by no means a new phenomenon, it certainly doesn’t conjure up images of comfortable, stylish and on-trend sofas – more like coffee tables, side boards and wardrobes, a rolled mattress at a push! Sofas that come delivered in boxes is a pretty new idea.

Enter Swyft, a London based team of forward thinking designers and craftsmen, who have made it their mission to “deliver comfy-ness at speed without having a negative impact on the environment” by creating a range of sofas that are delivered in convenient boxes within just 48 hours, ready for you to assemble at home with a few simple clicks (more about this later). And what’s more, they aim to be carbon neutral by 2021! Now that’s music to our collective ears.

Swyft Sofa in a Box

Do I sense a little skepticism? I must admit, I was a little dubious at first, after all, how comfortable can a sofa in a box really be? Surely the most comfortable sofas are meant to be big and bulky and require an army of burly delivery men to wrestle it into your living room – right? Wrong! The team at Swyft Sofas have created an incredibly comfortable sofa and are so confident that you’ll love it, they offer a 100 day money back trial! 100 days! That’s like almost a third of a year (smart little me for pointing this out).

Personally, if you’re looking to buy a new sofa I’d totally recommend you consider a sofa in a box from Swyft. And it’s not just because we sell them at Cuckooland. Why? Well, say goodbye to a 10 week wait and having to remove doors (or windows) to get them into your house; say farewell to nervously watching the ever-so-careful delivery team jiggle and wiggle your sofa to its final destination (with you wincing as the newly painted wall takes a few knocks and dings). Say hello to super speedy delivery in handy boxes that can be carried into even the most awkward of rooms, if I’ve not convinced you already, read on to discover more about how brilliant Swyft sofas are…

What is a sofa in a box?

Unlike traditional sofas that are delivered ready assembled, a sofa in a box comes in several parts that are delivered to you in boxes, ready to be self-assembled.

Both designs of Swyft’s 3 and 2 seater sofas are shipped in three boxes and their armchair is shipped in two boxes, with each box being light enough to be carried by one person.

A new sofa that doesn’t cost the earth

At the core of Swyft’s mission statement is a drive to be more sustainable and to be carbon neutral by 2021, from sourcing FSC wood for their sofa frame and legs, to using fully recyclable packaging, they are certainly doing their bit to be more conscious of the environment.

Swyft are currently working with Trees For Cities, a UK charity working to improve lives by planting trees in cities, and have pledged to plant two trees for every one tree used during manufacturing. Now that’s forward thinking!

Their self locking boxes (no sign of staples or glue) are made from recycled materials that are biodegradable, including plastic which has d2w added that over time will biodegrade in the environment in a similar way to a leaf.

Swyft sofa in a box vs traditional sofa

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of a flat pack sofa in a box, I’ve highlighted below a few of the key benefits of a Swyft sofa verses a traditional sofa;

  • Super quick delivery time

When buying a traditional sofa, you need a fair amount of patience as delivery times can be painfully long (I’m talking weeks). If you’re anything like me, once you’ve set your heart on something, you want it immediately (who am to try and teach my kids patience!). With a Swyft sofa you can be relaxing on your new chair and derrière within just 48 hours!

  • Perfect for small spaces

Swyft sofas are a brilliant choice if you have an awkward labyrinth of corridors or hallways to contend with, which may limit your choice of traditional sofas due to access restrictions. No need to precariously lift, tilt, pivot and struggle to turn tight corners, a sofa that comes flat packed overrides all these issues as you can simply carry the boxes into the room and build your Swyft sofa easily in situ. Once, we had to remove an entire window just to get our beloved sofa into our house, just think about that for a while (yes, we were way to stubborn and sentimental).

  • Easy to put together & take apart

When it comes to moving house, large and cumbersome sofas can be a real headache to pack up and move, sometimes they may not even fit through the new front door and become destined for Gumtree! This is not the case with a Swyft sofa in a box! Not only is it incredibly quick and simple to put together (Swyft claim it only takes 5 minutes!) it can be just as simple to take apart, popped back in a box (perhaps you were organised enough to have kept the original) and moved to its new home with no trouble at all.

  • Comparative value

Investing in a new sofa is quite a financial outlay, particularity if you’re after a full 3 piece suite. You may wrongly assume that because the delivery of a Swyft sofa is so swift (sorry, had to get that one in!) you’ll be charged a higher price for the convenience, however Swyft sofas are competitively priced against other traditional sofas, with prices ranging from £595 – £1195.
