7 Best Toddler Beds for Active Sleepers

What is it with toddlers and staying in their beds?! Whether it’s a monster in the cupboard, a request for their millionth drink, or to rouse the whole house at 5 am, they just love getting up. Meanwhile, we’d give anything for an extra half hour in bed!

You can help avoid at least unintentional get-ups with a toddler bed suitable for active sleepers. Our floor beds and beds with guard rails will help little ones who move around a lot in their dreams stay safely in their beds. Stop those accidental flops onto the floor – or at least, make sure they don’t have far to fall if they do.

We can’t promise they won’t still get up at 5 am, but with one of these practical first ‘big kid’ beds, they might at least be a little less grouchy (you, not so much!)

1. Nora Toddler Teepee Bed

Are you absolutely ‘floored’ by your toddler’s ability to throw themselves around like a child possessed in their sleep? Then perhaps a floor bed is the answer!

A floor-level bed keeps your little one low to the ground, so if they roll off the edge during a bad dream or ferocious battle with their teddy, they won’t have far to fall. You could even place a blanket or duvet next to the bed, to ensure a seamless transition to the floor.

The low bed height also gives your child a clear view of their surroundings when they’re tucked in, which will (hopefully) limit nighttime explorations!

The Nora Teepee Bed by Cuckooland is a stylish and affordable option for your toddler. It’s easy to decorate with colourful bunting, lights and accessories, to suit your mini adventurer’s big personality.

2. Jackson Toddler Bed

Here’s another great toddler bed to ‘house’ your active sleeper!

The Jackson House Bed sits low to the ground and will help stop your wild child rolling too far out of bed in the night.

The low height also means they can get themselves in and out of bed more easily, increasing their autonomy and sense of freedom. This aligns with the Montessori method of teaching, which encourages kids to become more independent through a child-friendly, accessible environment.

Although at floor level, the bed has a slatted base that is slightly raised off the ground, to allow air to circulate. It’s available in a toddler or single size – choose the single for greater longevity.

3. Vipack Casami Toddler Bed

If you’d prefer a bed raised further off the floor, check out the Vipack Casami Toddler Bed.

Although it sits a little higher off the ground, this bed helps to keep dramatic dreamers from falling out, thanks to the semi-enclosed house-shaped headboard.

The side walls with peephole windows ensure your little one can see out and check there are no monsters in their room (or that you’re still there, waiting for them to fall asleep!), whilst also making it harder for them to roll out of bed once they’ve nodded off.

It’s still not impossible though, so we’d recommend adding a bed guard if your little one really likes to thrash around in the night!

4. Isla Toddler Bed

If your little wriggle bum needs even more containment, the Isla Toddler Bed might be your best option.

This practical toddler bed has rails all around – except for at the entrance – to keep your little one safely in their bed all night long (or at least, until they decide they want to be somewhere else!)

Choose from white or grey and add an optional storage drawer to give their room some all-important storage.

5. Oliver Furniture Wood Mini Junior Bed

Help your acrobatic sleeper stay in their bed and create a stunning Scandinavian look in your nursery at the same time with the beautiful Wood Mini Junior Bed by Oliver Furniture.

The bed is made from FSC-certified birchwood and coated in non-toxic lacquer. The side rails and curved corners make for a cosy and safe sleeping environment for your child that will help keep them in their bed – add the custom cold foam mattress to ensure they have the best possible night’s sleep.

You can even purchase an optional conversion kit to transform the bed into a low loft bed or bunk bed, so your little one can stay in their bed as they get older too!

6. Vipack Kiddy Toddler Bed

For a more affordable alternative, the Vipack Kiddy Toddler Bed offers similar Scandi vibes for your little one’s room.

The bed has guards to help prevent nighttime rollouts, whilst the low height means that if they do manage to escape, it’s not too far to the floor.

Need space for your little one’s spare bedding, toys or pyjamas? Add the optional storage drawer under the bed for convenient storage. You could even use it to store another mattress and leave it open so they have a soft place to land!

7. Oliver Furniture Seaside Lille+ Junior Bed

Finally, the Oliver Furniture Seaside Lille+ Junior Bed will add a timeless look to your kid’s room whilst encouraging them to stay in bed.

Add the optional roof and fabric top to create a fun house-like hideaway that your little one will love climbing into at night – and hopefully won’t want to leave.

The included bed guard can be positioned on either side of the bed, giving you more flexibility on how to arrange the room. When they outgrow their bed, simply remove the guard and use it as a stylish kid’s sofa instead!
