Big Makeovers for Small Bedrooms – Kid’s Edition

Box rooms are a challenge for many parents. How to ensure your little one has enough space for sleep, play and storage when you’re working with a room barely big enough to swing a proverbial cat?

The answer: By getting creative with the kid’s bed you choose! We recommend swerving the standard single and choosing a mid or high-sleeper bed that packs everything in without taking up one iota more floor space (ok, maybe just one iota!)

If you’re desperately trying to make a box room work, check out our best kid’s beds for small bedrooms below – it’s time to think outside the box!

1. Marlowe Mid Sleeper Bed with Steps and Storage

Store, play and sleep with the Marlowe Mid Sleeper Bed by Cuckooland.

This compact cabin bed features wide, easy-to-climb steps, each with hidden storage space, perfect for hiding away toys, books and any other kiddie clutter. The bed is a full-sized UK single to give your little one plenty of space to starfish.

The real ‘star’ of the show though is the space under the bed – it’s perfect for use as a play area, den, reading nook, or more storage. All this makes it an ideal bed for small people with a small room!

2. Harper High Sleeper Bed

If you have an older child who needs a study space more than a play area, the Harper High Sleeper is the affordable kid’s bed you’ve been looking for.

Harper has a bed, desk, storage drawers, shelves and a large corner wardrobe all packed into the same footprint as a single bed, making the most of every inch of space.

There’s room for kids to do homework, play computer games, store clothes, and keep possessions tidy. At the end of the day, they’ll be able to quickly scale the ladder up its comfy wide steps to Bedfordshire!

3. Ava High Sleeper with Desk

One of our favourite Cuckooland kid’s beds, the Ava High Sleeper is the ultimate sleep station for small bedrooms. If you don’t have space for any other furniture, no problem – this bed is all you need!

Beneath the high-sleeper bed, Ava has a right-angle desk for studying and browsing online, an open shelving wall to store books and possessions, and a wardrobe with a sliding door for anything you don’t want on display.

Up the ladder, you’ll find even more storage, with shelves running parallel to both sides of the bed, offering a convenient place for alarm clocks, drinks, a bedside lamp, or whatever else they may need before they nod off.

4. Vipack Pino High Sleeper with Sofa Bed

This Vipack Pino High Sleeper with Sofa Bed is perfect if you need a bed that can accommodate friends on sleepovers but don’t have the space for a permanent guest bed.

The comfy chair gives your little one somewhere to chill out that isn’t their bed (something that doesn’t often happen in a box room!) or space for a friend to sit when your child is at their desk.

Then, when it’s time for lights out, fold out the chair mattress, and you have an instant bunk bed!

5. Lars Low Cabin Bed with Storage

Sleepover-ready beds don’t have to be high sleepers!

The compact Lars Cabin Bed has three large drawers in the middle row, making it ideal for smaller rooms with no space for a chest of drawers.

But that’s not all: There’s also a large trundle drawer below these so you can have even more storage, or if there’s enough floor space, you could pop in a second mattress and have a spare bed too.

All this in the same space as a standard single bed!

6. Fraser Single Storage Bed

If you have a bookworm on your hands, the Fraser Single Storage Bed could be a read-y made bed for your small kid’s room.

That’s because the headboard of this unique kid’s bed features a built-in bookshelf, which is ideal for keeping their favourite bedtime stories, as well as drinks and nightlights, close to hand.

Additionally, the large trundle drawer under the bed provides more space for storage or a spare mattress – oh, the possibilities!

7. Didi Shorty Reversible Bunk Bed with Storage

For two little ones sharing an even littler bedroom (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration!), you NEED to check out the Didi Shorty Bunk Bed.

This slimline option is smaller than your typical bunk bed, taking mattresses of 175 x 75 cm, instead of the standard UK single, 190 x 90 cm. This compact size will be more than adequate for younger children and means it can squeeze into even the cosiest of box rooms.

Didi also comes with two storage drawers below the bottom bunk (one for each child!) and built-in clothes hooks, perfect for jackets or dressing gowns. This is the best small bunk bed for small rooms we’ve seen!

8. Willow Kids Day Bed with Optional Storage

Want a tepee or house-shaped kid’s bed, but think you haven’t got space? Think again!

The Willow Kids Day Bed gives you all the style of a themed kid’s house bed, whilst keeping the frame light and slimline. The white finish is perfect for smaller rooms as it reflects light and will make the space appear larger.

You have the choice of leaving the area under the bed empty or adding the optional storage drawers or a larger trundle to make the bed work for you and the space.

9. Grace Detachable Bunk Bed

Finally, if you have two kids sharing a small room on a temporary arrangement, the Grace Bunk Bed is a practical, forward-thinking option.

The bed is simple and stylish and again comes with the option of adding two storage drawers or a single large trundle underneath – meaning it could even sleep three if required.

The real selling feature of this bed though is that you can separate it into two single beds. This means that if your kids move into their own rooms in the future, you won’t have to purchase new beds – genius!
