How to Design the Perfect Teen Bedroom

Kiddies grow up so quickly! One minute they’re taking their baby steps and saying their first words and the next they’re going to bed later than you are and becoming more and more independent!

Before you know it, the teen years have arrived and their once beloved bedrooms have quickly become outgrown. Their bedroom furniture is no longer ‘cool’, they don’t have enough space for their ‘stuff’ and don’t even get them started on the wallpaper…

If you’ve finally agreed to give your teen’s bedroom an update, but you have no idea what you’ve gotten yourself into, we have a few ideas that will get you in their good books!

To get you started, take a look at our Teen Furniture and Décor top tips for some inspiration!

1. Save Floor Space with a High Sleeper

Harry High Rise Bed with Wardrobe

Say goodbye to their little kids’ bed and upgrade to something much more grownup! Offering plenty of storage and space-saving solutions, the Harry High Rise Bed with Wardrobe is a dream for teens and parents. The additional floor space, a high sleeper bed brings, can be used for other activities and hobbies.

There’s so much storage, there’s no excuse for a messy bedroom. The open wardrobe includes a shelf and hanging rail, the desk features 4 storage shelves and the bench seat becomes additional open and closed shelving.

Designed with a full-length desk, it’s a great space for studying and ticking off school assignments. The integrated wire notice board can be personalised with photos and goals to keep them motivated while they work!

And when homework is complete, they’ve caught up with friends and it’s time for bed – the high sleeper single bed awaits them.

2. Select a Small Double with a Difference

Vox 4 You Bed with Raised Mattress Mechanism in White

If your teen has been dropping double bed hints, the Vox 4 You Bed with Raised Mattress Mechanism might convince you!

Not quite a full double – we’d recommend a European small double for teens. They get the extra stretching out space, but the bed won’t dominate the room and they’ll still be able to comfortably move around and enjoy other activities.

The Vox 4 You Small Double features handy storage in and around the wooden frame. Add the optional storage boxes for books, movies and games and store bulkier bits beneath the mattress.

Styled in white, it’s easy to pair bedding and décor to your teen’s tastes. And if their style changes again, you won’t have to replace the furniture if they decide to redecorate!

A little jealous of your teen’s new digs? This brilliant bed comes in a king-size too… although it might not be so ‘cool’ if you’re caught copying!

3. Select a Single Bed They Can Put Their Stamp On

Vox Stige Kids Single Bed with Trundle Drawer

A bed made to be personalised – your teens can make their mark with the Vox Stige Kids Single Bed.

The single bed frame arrives with a trundle drawer, perfect for storing bedding and essential bits and bobs; but here’s the fun bit – add the extra accessories to completely customise the frame to suit your teen’s wants and needs!

Add storage ladders, cube storage boxes, cork boards and hanging accessories for them to make it their own. There is even a dartboard they can play with. Beds don’t just have to be for sleeping! Add the trundle bed to the set and their mates can come over to stay. The awesome parent award goes to… you!

Style the natural wooden frame with the coordinating Stige range, add fairy lights and cosy bedding and create a space for them to personalise, relax and recoup. A space just for them!

4. Modular Storage is the Way Forward

Vox Stige Modular Bookcase

Your youngsters can store books, movies, games, records and more in the Vox Stige Modular Bookcase.

Featuring 8 open compartments, they can display their favourite trinkets, sports trophies and memorabilia. And if they want to hide away secret childhood mementos, that they don’t want their friends knowing about, add the Stige two-door cabinet to your setup and keep beloved teddies and treasures behind closed doors. No one will know!

Combine with the other alternating wardrobes, drawers, dressers, cabinets, and shelves to create a space-saving storage wall. The modular system can be designed to suit their bedroom and needs. The Stige range is practical and stylish – everything a growing teen could want.

5. Storage is Sorted with a Triple Wardrobe

Vox Concept 3 Door Wardrobe in Grey & Black

If you thought they accumulated a lot of stuff as kids, wait until you have a teen! As they grow… so will their clothes and shoes!

If you’re in desperate need of more storage, look no further than a triple wardrobe. The Vox Concept 3 Door Wardrobes all feature hanging rails, shelves, closed compartments and drawers – perfect for growing teens! Their favourite band tees, never-ending shoe collection and countless accessories will all have a home behind the three doors.

Available in a choice of colours, with alternating drawer and door fronts – we’d recommend the Grey and Black 3 door wardrobe for teens! The monochromatic scheme can be paired with any bedding, décor and wall art, plus there is a chalkboard – perfect for leaving reminders or supportive messages (be warned, you might get the odd eye roll if you write anything too mushy).

6. Get a Smart Desk for Your Tech-Savvy Teen

Koble Bea Smart Desk with Wireless Charging

A desk with a difference – the Koble Bea Smart Desk includes wireless charging for tech savvy teens!

The wood veneer tabletop features an integrated wireless charging surface, so while they’re chipping away at coursework and college applications, their devices will be having a well-deserved recharge. Mains powered, position near a wall plug and they’re good to go!

When they’re busy working away at their desks, posture can be a problem. The raised shelf keeps laptops and computers at a good working height, so aches and pains aren’t an issue for teens.

Designed with metal hairpin legs and a natural wood finish; when their smart workspace looks smart too… homework doesn’t feel so much like a chore.

7. Give them Bear Hugs with Bean Bags

Extreme Lounging Mighty B Teddy Indoor Bean Bag

A bean bag is a great accessory for relaxing, reading, gaming, crafting, sketching and more.

The Extreme Lounging Mighty B Teddy Indoor Bean Bags have been filled with thousands of polybeads that mould to the body, to offer unmatched comfort and support. Surrounded by a durable layer of soft teddy fabric, it feels like you’re receiving a big bear hug while you sit!

Choose from a selection of colours and create a chill-out zone for your kids and their friends to relax. The breathable vents, double-stitched seams, rubber handle and lightweight design are perfect for wild teens. It’s also a great accessory if they’re headed off to College or University soon. Their Extreme Lounging Bean Bag chair can go with them!

8. Relieve Stress with a Weighted Blanket

Icon Star Kids Weighted Blanket

With exams around the corner, never-ending assignments and extra responsibilities – being a teen is hard work!

Weighted blankets have been scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety and aid in relaxation and improve sleep quality. Seems too good to be true? The Icon Star Kids Weighted Blanket has been designed with individual pockets, filled with weighted glass beads, that evenly spread over the body when lying underneath. Within just twenty minutes, this gentle compression relaxes breathing, muscles and heart rate and leaves the body feeling calm. Basically, it’s like a warm hug, in blanket form!

Taking quiet moments to snuggle up with a weighted blanket will do your teen the world of good. Daily trials and pressures will seem much more manageable!

Sounds delightful, doesn’t it! At Cuckooland we have weighted blankets for us ‘big kids’ too…
