Before you browse, take a look at our most commonly-asked questions…

What type of gas will I need for my BBQ?

To fuel your BBQ, you’ll need a bottle of either butane or propane gas. Either type of gas will work, however propane is more commonly used for barbecuing. You can find smaller ‘patio gas’ bottles at a wide range of DIY or gardening stores, like B&Q or Homebase.

How do you properly clean a gas BBQ?

After you enjoy a BBQ, it’s important to give your grill a good wipe down before next time. Otherwise, leftover food could burn to a crisp and smoke up a storm at your next BBQ - which isn’t ideal!

According to Outdoor Chef, here’s how you can give your gas BBQ a good old clean:

  • First, make sure the gas tank is disconnected.
  • Wait until the BBQ has cooled down, and brush the grates with a bristled and sturdy wire brush.
  • Spray the gate with a BBQ cleaning spray and leave to one side.
  • Scrub the gate with an abrasive sponge and rinse with water.
  • Spray the inside of the BBQ with your cleaner spray and leave for a minute or so.
  • Use a plastic scraping tool to remove grease and any leftover stuck-on food. Wipe clean with a soft sponge once you’re done.
  • Wipe the drip tray and bottom tray clean with water - make sure you don’t splash the burner tubes.
  • Allow your BBQ to dry before piecing your grill back together, and finish the job with a non-stick spray.

Why choose a gas BBQ instead of charcoal or wood-fired?

Put simply, you save yourself the hassle of cleaning up charcoal dust and the effort of lighting a fire! Because with a gas BBQ, you simply flick on a switch and you’ll be ready to grill.

Plus, a gas BBQ is often easier to control than a charcoal or firewood BBQ. That’s because the heat is evenly distributed across the entire grill, so you won’t need to deal with any raw middles or crispy edges.

And as the grill heats food on both sides, you won’t need to flip your food either. So you spend less time manning the grill, and more time catching up with your guests!

How can I reduce BBQ smoke?

To limit the amount of smoke your gas BBQ creates, make sure you:

  • Avoid closing the lid too soon and allow your grill to breathe.
  • Make sure you remove any leftover food residue before you start cooking.
Plus, our range of Outdoor Chef BBQs have burner shields to reduce the level of smoke.

Can I keep my gas BBQ outside all the time?

It’s best to keep your BBQ in a secure and dry place. If you don’t have a shed or a garage to stow away your grill overnight, it’s a good idea to get a barbecue cover to protect it from the elements.

So when it comes to keeping smoke levels to a minimum, here’s what you need to know:
