1. What is the difference between a Cot and a Cot Bed?

A Cot Bed has the benefit of being convertible (into a toddler bed) once your baby is old enough, where as a Cot cannot convert. A Cot is generally smaller, requiring a 60 x 120cm mattress whilst a Cot Bed comes up larger, requiring a 70 x 140cm mattress, so please ensure you check your room measurements when deciding on the best option.

2. Can Cots be used from birth?

Yes cots can be used from birth, this really is a personal preference for all new parents. Some parents prefer their new baby to sleep in with them for the first few months and find a crib or moses basket best for this arrangement. However some decide to settle their baby to sleep in a nursery from birth and in this instance a cot would be a great first bed.

3. Why do Cots have different levels?

Most cots have the function to alter the level of the sleeping platform and this can be very useful. The top level is ideal for your newborn baby, you may spend lots of time bending so this will be the kindest setting for your back! Once your baby begins to pull up it's time to drop the level down to ensure that they are safe and cannot climb out.

4. What bedding should you use in a Cot?

Pillows and duvets aren't recommended for babies under 12 months old and the cot area should be kept as clutter free as possible. A baby growbag or sheet / blanket that can be tucked in are generally the most suitable form of bedding. If you want to add some colour and styling to the nursery try adding a few cool nursery accessories instead.
